Who are we?
Sad Friends Ceramics is a community studio in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco founded by Bay Area native ceramicist Daniel Vu and Sad Friends Alyssa and Grant Herugi. Our studio was created to provide a third space to our community and make bowls. Our ethos is to teach technical skill, precision, and thoughtful craftsmanship in a comfortable environment. We provide classes that focuses on both wheel throwing and mold-making, offering members a strong foundation in the industrial sector of ceramics while giving them the space to explore their own ideas with clarity and support.
With 12 wheels, electric kilns, a 3D printer for mold fabrication, dust collectors for clean air, and a growing glaze library, Sad Friends provides the tools and environment for ceramicists of all levels to work with intention. The studio welcomes those looking for a space within the ceramic world as well as those looking to explore and refine their practice. The studio also has wheelie good snacks!
