Prerequisite: Intro to wheel throwing at any studio. Ability to throw consistently pulled cylinders.
This course will refine your technique, improve consistency, and increase the variety of forms you’ll be able to produce on the wheel. Students will complete several functional pieces while developing greater control, efficiency, and confidence on the wheel.
Week 1: 5 lb bowl
Week 2: Lidded forms
Week 3: Throwing off the hump
Week 4: Vases
Week 5: Glaze
Finished work can be picked up 1-2 weeks after session 5.
Class dates: 09/08, 09/15, 09/22, 09/29, 10/06
Week 1:
Introductions, facility tour, wedging demo, cylinder demos.
Week 2:
Continued wedging and cylinder practice, bowl demo.
Week 3:
Trimming demo and practice.
Week 4:
Final stages of greenware, underglaze, decorating, cleaning up pieces.
All work must be ready to bisque by the end of this week.
Week 5:
Lecture on glazes, glaze demo, spray booth demo, glaze work. Work can be picked up 1-2 weeks after this point.
