Instructor: Ray Li

This course is designed to build the foundational skills of hand building, glazing, and sculptural design. Students will learn coil building, carving, slab building and pinch pots. It will also take you through the ceramic process from clay to finished work. Please check the syllabus for more info.

Finished work can be picked up 1-2 weeks after session 5.

  • 5-Week Class Series
  • 6:30 PM - 9 PM (2.5 hours/class)
  • Materials and tools are included. 
  • Comes with one 25lb bag of clay.
  • Maximum capacity of 8 students per session to ensure adequate personal instruction. 
  • Open studio times are 10AM - 6PM Monday - Saturday.

Class dates: 07/28, 08/04, 08/11, 08/18, 08/25

Syllabus

Week 1: 

Introductions, facility tour, wedging demo, cylinder demos.

Week 2: 

Continued wedging and cylinder practice, bowl demo.

Week 3:

Trimming demo and practice.

Week 4: 

Final stages of greenware, underglaze, decorating, cleaning up pieces.
All work must be ready to bisque by the end of this week.

Week 5: 

Lecture on glazes, glaze demo, spray booth demo, glaze work. Work can be picked up 1-2 weeks after this point.
